Vallauris France: Process- Renaissance Man

Posted on Wednesday, June 27, 2012 by JamesSimon

I was invited to Vallauris, France, to be part of the A.I.R. artist in residency program. With permission and support from the city architects, and the blessing from the mayor of Vallauris, I am creating a public art sculpture for the city, and the residency. The sculpture titled "Renaissance Man" is a ceramic relief sculpture. The sculpture will stand 10 feet tall and be installed on a wall in a beautiful square two blocks from where Picasso and Chagall worked in the 1950s.The "Renaissance Man" is a man playing both accordion and football with his dog along for the ride-Themes relatable to both the local and national culture.French poetry patches embelish his pants-a contribution from  Rae Dunn, with hair by Whitney Smith.
