Russian Troubadors

I created this work for Pirogovsky, Russia, a small town near Moscow. The mosaic was unveiled to an array of officials including two mayors, a famous cosmonaut, and legislators from the Russian Parliament.

The  man in the wheel chair: I had the great pleasure to visit with Nikogosian Nikolay a giant in the sculpture painting world of Russia and much of Europe . Hard to not instantly love this guy- what an incredible face! He started sculpting in the early 1900s - through wars and communism and on and on - he had done countless portraits and monuments of important academics musicians politicians poets and a fantastic series of paintings of his circus friends -He is now in his late 90s and still creating high quality sketches - here he is looking at my work ( which he seems to like) and says he had never seen anything like it. he has an incredible studio/ modern castle with hundreds of his works everywhere- thanks to Tatiana Williams and friends for introductions !
